Animals in Art: Complementary Color Silhouettes

After drawing their animals, the students picked a secondary color to mix for painting their animals.  They were asked to think about which color is across from their secondary color on the color wheel so that they could paint them using a complimentary color scheme. Below are some examples of the project in the 1st stages.


Below are images of student work in which the 8th graders have started to mix tints using complimentary colors and are beginning the painting process. Each stripe should get darker as it gets farther away from the animal. Our next step will be to create shades by mixing our primary colors with black.
