Drawing A | Value

To practice creating values students completed a series of value scales using different pencils for blending and multiple techniques for creating value. They worked on shading forms such as cones, cylinders, cubes, and pyramids to make them look three-dimensional.

Animals in Art | Zentangles

Animals in Art students begin their quarter long class by completing a series of drawing practices together as a group. We complete these as a step-by-step practice and discussed how to break things down into shapes as they go. Our first animals we drew were a sea horse and a sea turtle. Along with our step-by-step ocean animal drawings the 8th graders worked on breaking patterns down into steps as well as creating values using a series of zentangle patterns and designs. These practices are skills that they will incorporate into our first project which will be one of their ocean animals filled with patterns.

Drawing A | Gesture Drawings

Our first skill we practiced was creating "gesture drawings" and "contour line drawings". Both of these are skills the students can use to start their sketches when drawing or beginning our projects. To complete these practices, students looked at objects placed in the center of their tables.

Painting | Watercolor Practice

Quarter 1 of Painting class focuses on using watercolor paints. These students have completed a series of practices that including layering paint, glazing, mixing colors, and changing values using water saturation.

Drawing A | Watch Drawings

Drawing students began the semester by choosing an image of a watch and recreating it to the best of their ability. This is considered a "pre-drawing" for the course so they did not have specific guidelines or any skills practices before completing their watch drawings.
