Mixed Media | Frida Kahlo Collaborative Project

The 2 images below are self portraits created by painter Frida Kahlo. These are the images that students are recreating used mixed media materials as their final project. This assignment is both individual and collaborative as each student has one portion they are responsible for creating, but will also need to combine their work with that of their group members in order to have the full image at the end.

Below are examples of individual portions of the project that are still in progress. When complete, students will combine their parts of the image to create a full portrait of Frida Kahlo that uses various mixed media materials to create the lines and color.

Mixed Media | Frida Kahlo Collaborative Project

Mixed Media materials practice. Each student divided their square into 3 sections. Within each section is a single color and at least 2 materials.

Below are finished examples of the collaborative projects the students will be completing. These examples are not from this class, but a previous year. Each student is assigned a portion of the image and uses many materials to recreate a self-portrait of artist Frida Kahlo.
