The 10-12th graders in Digital Photography have just completed their Self-Portraits. They needed to incorporate at least 3 images of themselves into a photograph of a location they chose. Some students took their photographs during school and others took pictures on their own time to have more choices in locations. Creating depth, and adjusting the proportions to match the distance away from the viewer were two of the requirements the students were asked to focus on with this project.
Animals in Art: Franz Marc inspired Oil Pastel Drawings
Our final step in completing the Franz Marc inspired oil pastels was adding a clear coat to prevent smearing. Many of the students found working with oil pastels very challenging but their projects turned out great!
Mixed Media: Coil Baskets
Students in Mixed Media A have worked on their baskets for 5 days now (after spending 5 on coasters to get the process down). They are working on bringing the sides of their baskets up and continuing to focus on keeping the coils close together by creating stitches in a figure 8 pattern. Some students will be creating large baskets, while others will make multiple smaller baskets. Other options include making lids and spending extra time creating a design on the sides of their project.
Animals in Art: Franz Marc inspired Oil Pastel Drawings
While analyzing the work of German Expressionist artist Franz Marc, the 8th graders pointed out characteristics that were present in all of the examples. Some of the things they noticed were simplified animals, unrealistic colors, and abstract backgrounds. We also discussed how color was used; two ways we focused on were using color as a separation between the animal and background as well as using colors to show moods or emotions. We looked at examples of animal paintings that were blue and compared them to animals painted in yellow. Students came up with other colors that are often associated with specific emotions or moods.
Digital Photography: Self-Portraits
Digital Photography students are continuing to work on cuttings objects out of different images. For this project, the students were able to incorporate their own photographs that they took in pairs. The idea for this self portrait is that they need a minimum of 3 photographs of themselves combined into one image. They were challenged to think about ways they could make the different photographs interact or find unique things for each person to do.
Digital Photography: Using Color
Here are a few examples of what students created in Digital Photography by combining images of a landscape, a striped object, a flying object, and a tree. Adding shadows and refining the edges of the objects were a couple more of the requirements with this assignment.
Animals in Art: Magazine Mosaics
Below are examples of finished mosaics created by 8th graders. They were able to chose an animal to use for this project and then used magazines to find the colors needed to show the different colors and values you would see with their animal. The cut squares, rectangles, or triangles and spaced them out in the sections that each have different colors.
