Animals in Art: Zentangles

The 8th graders have spent the last couple of days tracing over their designs in permanent marker and have finished their first projects. Their Zentangle Animals include at least 5 different patterns, 3 or more types of line, and were painted using watercolors.

Animals in Art: Zentangles

After filling their animal outlines with Zentangle Patterns, the 8th graders learned how to create a watercolor wash and have started to paint their animals. The next steps will be getting the backgrounds painted and the designs traced in permanent marker.

Animals in Art: Zentangles

After practicing different Zentangle Patterns, the 8th grade students have started to draw their animals and fill them with various patterns. We are focusing on creating at least 5 different patterns and using a minimum of 3 different kinds of lines. While drawing these designs, the students are keeping in mind the practice we completed with creating transitions as well as different values.

Mixed Media A: Watercolor "Dream" Books

The students in Mixed Media A are beginning to take the pages they painted during the first week of school and are turning them into books that fit the theme of "Dreams". Each student is able to interpret the theme however they want and go in many different directions with that concept. Throughout their books, they are adding repeated shapes that they have cut out of magazines, they are adding different types of line, and have a requirement of adding text. Below are some examples of what some of the students have accomplished so far.

Animals in Art: Zentangles

8th graders taking Animals in Art have been spending the first few days of school working on different Zentangle Patterns. They have learned how to transition from one pattern to the next. We also worked on creating different values using these patterns by placing lines close together to make areas appear darker and spacing them out to get lighter areas. Students will be using the skills they have developed to fill in drawings of different animals that we will be starting next week.

Digital Photography: Composition Posters

Students taking Digital Photography have spent the first few days of school learning about composition. Some of the things we went over are leading lines, framing, and human emotion. Students looked through magazines to find examples of each concept we learned about. This activity is an introduction to help the students with the photographs they will be taking and the projects they will be creating using these pictures in PhotoShop.

Mixed Media A: Watercolor Techniques

Students in Mixed Media A have been working on using various watercolor techniques. They have practiced creating different watercolor washes, making designs with added materials such as salt and cling wrap, as well as layering the colors to achieve different results.
