Animals in Art: Complementary Color Silhouette Paintings

Our last project was a very simple concept that focused in on color theory including mixing tints and shades. Students had recently learned about complimentary color schemes and were asked to choose one pair of complimentary colors to use for this project.  The stripes closest to the animals are the tints (mixed with white) and should be lightest right next to the animals. About 1/2 way out, students switched to shades (mixed with black) to create darker stripes.
